Are you having problems with your wisdom teeth? Is a member of your family having problems? Call us at Victoria Dentists to make an appointment.
After all, wisdom teeth don’t always do what they are supposed to. They often grow sideways into other teeth instead of growing straight. This can have a significant impact on the other teeth in your mouth and it can be very painful and uncomfortable.
When this happens, the solution is to extract the problematic wisdom tooth or teeth.
If this is a procedure you need, we’ll make sure it goes as smoothly as possible. We’ll answer all your questions and will explain everything. We’ll also do everything we can to make you as relaxed and comfortable as possible.
There is a short recovery time after wisdom teeth are extracted after which your teeth and gums will feel comfortable and pain-free again. Call us today on 07 839 1660 to book an appointment.
The process for extracting wisdom teeth is similar to extractions of all other types of teeth. The process starts with your dentist taking an x-ray of the area and, more than likely, an OPG jaw scan.
These x-rays will show any other problems that might exist below the tooth such as an abscess or curved root. The full jaw scan also makes it easier for us to see the problem wisdom tooth.
Not all extractions are the same, but the x-rays and scans will show your dentist whether it will be a straightforward extraction or something more complicated. When we get to this stage of the process, we will explain everything to you as well as our plan for moving forward.
The first step, however, is to make an appointment. We extract wisdom teeth at our clinic in Hamilton as well as in our satellite clinic in Raglan. You can book an appointment online or you can call us on 07 839 1660.
What Are Wisdom Teeth and What Do They Do?
Wisdom teeth got their name back in the mid-1800s. The name comes from the fact they usually start to appear in the jaw when you are somewhere between 17 and 25-years-old. In other words, when you are leaving your teenage years behind and are getting a bit wiser. That’s the theory anyway!
Some experts believe they were important for our primitive ancestors as it helped them chew their food. Modern food preparation and cooking techniques, however, make wisdom teeth much less important. As a result, those who have their wisdom teeth extracted typically suffer few negative effects or impacts.
